This PUAEME008 Provide Pain Management course provides you with the knowledge and training to administer restricted analgesics as a part of a medically supervised first responder organisation.
What You Will Learn
This course gives you the skills to take control when identifying the need for analgesia. You will learn how to:
- Assess the mechanism of pain
- Identify the need for analgesia
- Access and prepare analgesics such as Paracetamol, Aspirin, and Methoxyflurane (Penthrox)
- Assess a patient's vital signs (respirations, pulse, temperature)
- Check for contraindications to ensure patient safety
- Administer restricted analgesics according to medically endorsed protocols
- Perform a comprehensive casualty handover
- Complete all analgesic use and documentation requirements
Who Should Attend?
This certification is ideal for individuals in organisations that are part of a medically supervised first responder team or authorised workplaces, including industrial first aiders, event medics, and patient transport officers.
This certification remains current for 1 year. Annual refresher training is required to maintain currency.

Course Delivery:
You can start this course at any time. This course utilises a Mixed Mode format and requires the following:
- Online Learning Modules: These take approximately 2-3 hours to complete, depending on your individual study commitment.
- Face-to-Face Practical Assessment: A mandatory 2-hour practical assessment session is required.
- Practical Assessment Sessions are typically held daily.
- Course Enrolment Window: 90 days. You have a maximum of 90 days to complete both online and practical components.
- Assessments: Submitted through our online learning portal.
- Learning Materials: Provided via our online learning portal.
- Equipment: Provided for all practical assessments.

- You will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment as part of your enrolment process
- As part of the course you will be required to upload a copy of your Statement of Attainment issued within the last 3 years for the following unit:
- HLTAID011 Provide first aid
- A computer or laptop with internet access.
- A web browser (like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge).

To complete this course, you will need:
All Registered Training Organisations are required, as a mandatory part of your enrolment process, to assess your language, literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy (LLND) skills.
We administer these tests online to verify if you have the necessary skills to complete this course. If you successfully complete these tests, you will be automatically allowed to complete your enrolment and pay for your course.
If your LLND level does not meet the requirements for the course, we will contact you to discuss the steps forward depending on the level assessed. This may include additional pre-learning material or a referral to a specialist LLND service.
