Course Information

Our nationally recognised HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course is the benchmark for workplace first aid training in Australia. Often called a 'Level 2 First Aid Certificate', this course provides the essential skills to confidently respond to a wide range of emergencies. We offer accredited training in Melbourne and Newcastle.

This blended course increases your confidence and skills to take control in an emergency, providing immediate help to a casualty until paramedics arrive.

You will learn how to manage a cardiac arrest, perform CPR, use an AED, and treat common conditions including:

  • Asthma and anaphylaxis
  • Bleeding and shock
  • Choking
  • Snake and spider bites
  • Fractures, sprains and strains

These skills are applicable in workplaces, homes, and community settings and they assist in meeting workplace safety compliance.

The Code of Practice: First aid in the workplace advises that you should update this course every 3 years to maintain currency

The Australian Resuscitation Council advises that you should update the CPR component (HLTAID009) of this course every 12 months.

Award and Delivery Details

Award Issued:

Upon successful completion of both the theoretical and practical assessments for this nationally recognised training, students will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for:

  • HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 - Provide first aid

This course utilises a Mixed Mode format and requires the following:

  • Online Learning Modules: these take approximately 2-3 hours to complete, depending on your individual study commitment.
  • Face-to-Face Practical Assessment: A mandatory 6-hour practical assessment session is required.
  • Practical Assessment Sessions are typically held daily.
  • Course Enrolment Window: 90 days. You have a maximum of 90 days to complete both online and practical components.
  • Assessments: Submitted through our online learning portal.
  • Learning Materials: Provided via our online learning portal.
  • Equipment: Provided for all practical assessments.

  • Special Requirements:
    • Perform CPR on adult and infant manikins for at least 2 minutes each (physical activity).
    • Ability to kneel on the floor for extended periods is required. If unable to do so, you may not be able to complete the course.
    • Wear comfortable clothing suitable for the activities.

Prerequisites & Learner Requirements

Prerequisite Units:

  • You will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment as part of your enrolment process
  • There are no additional prerequisite units

Learner Requirements

To complete this course, you will need:

  • A computer or laptop with internet access.
  • A web browser (like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge).
  • A valid personal email address (shared addresses are not allowed). If you don't have one, consider creating a free Gmail account here.
  • Access to:
    • A digital camera or phone with camera facilities
    • A webcam or phone with video/audio facilities

All Registered Training Organisations are required, as a mandatory part of your enrolment process, to assess your language, literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy (LLND) skills.

We administer these tests online to verify if you have the necessary skills to complete this course. If you successfully complete these tests, you will be automatically allowed to complete your enrolment and pay for your course.

If your LLND level does not meet the requirements for the course, we will contact you to discuss the steps forward depending on the level assessed. This may include additional pre-learning material or a referral to a specialist LLND service.
