Course Information

The HLT31220 - Certificate III in Basic Health Care equips you with the skills and knowledge for roles as entry-level health workers, first aiders, or medical response workers. You'll learn to provide basic healthcare services, including emergency first aid, in pre-hospital and out-of-hospital environments. This cert 3 basic health care qualification is relevant for those providing first response healthcare in workplaces such as industrial sites, first aid organisations, and the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The Australian Resuscitation Council advises that you should update your first aid every 3 years to maintain currency, they also advise that the CPR and advanced resuscitation components of this course be updated every 12 months.

Students who successfully complete both the theoretical and practical assessment components of this nationally recognised training will be awarded the qualification:

  • HLT31220 - Certificate III in Basic Health Care

This course is delivered by Mixed Mode:

  • Completion of self-paced online learning which can take up to 12 months (time taken varies depending on student commitment)
  • Completion of a face-to-face two-day practical assessment session.
  • The two-day face-to-face practical assessment sessions are normally run on Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 5 pm. The weekend block runs on alternate months.
  • You can book in for this session after you have completed the online component for the units HLTAID011, HLTAID014, HLTAID015, HLTAAP001, HLTINF006, HLTWHS002, HLTWHS006, and PUAEME008.
  • Course enrolment is for 6 months - You have a maximum of 12 months to complete both the online and the practical components of this course.
  • All assessments are submitted via our online learning portal.
  • All learning material for this unit is provided via our online learning portal.
  • All equipment is provided for the practical assessments.

Learner Requirements

You will require access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection to complete this course.

You must also be able to use a web browser (such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) and have your own valid email address. Shared email addresses are not permitted. If you do not have your own email, we suggest you create a Gmail address here.

Access to:

  • A digital camera or phone with camera facilities
  • A webcam or phone with video/audio facilities

A learner undertaking this course will require a specific skill level in Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital Literacy.

The course has been assessed as requiring the following Australian Core Skills Framework levels:

  • Writing - Level 3
  • Oral Communication - Level 3
  • Numeracy - Level 3
